Pensacola, FL- The Blue Wahoos extended their winning streak to 10 games after coming back to beat Tennessee by a final of 9-3.
The Smokies got off to a good start when Smokies shortstop Luis Vazquez hit his seventh home-run of the season to make it 1-0 in the first inning. The Blue Wahoos tied it up at one after a throwing error in the home half of the first. Tennessee's catcher Pablo Aliendo got the Smokies right back on the board in the second inning with a 2-run home run to make it 3-1 Smokies.
In the bottom half of the third inning, Blue Wahoos right fielder Dane Myers plugged the gap to score a run on an RBI double. That double cut the Smokies lead down to one at 3-2. The next two innings were scoreless until Blue Wahoos catcher Will Banfield crushed a hanging curveball over left field to tie the game up at 3 in the bottom of the sixth.
The Blue Wahoos made a splash in the seventh inning after two singles back-to-back, followed by a 3 run home run by Victor Mesa Jr to make it 6-3 Pensacola in the seventh inning. Pensacola produced another run in the seventh inning on an eight pitch at-bat that resulted in an RBI single off the bat of Bennett Hostetler to make it 7-3.
The Blue Wahoos broke it open in the bottom of the eighth inning scoring two more runs on a 2 RBI single by Will Banfield to make it 9-3.Pensacola won the series opener by a final of 9-3, with Blue Wahoos left fielder Dane Myers setting a career high performance going 5-for-5 at the plate tonight with a double. The Blue Wahoos and the Tennessee Smokies will battle again tomorrow night at 7:35 P.M.
