Valley Blue Sox News Release
New Bedford, MA - A trip to Paul Walsh Field on Sunday night proved effective for the Blue Sox as they were able to push their overall record for the season above .500 once again with a 4-1 win against the New Bedford Bay Sox (8-14).
Holyoke (11-10) now sits just 3.5 games behind the first place Vermont Mountaineers and only a game behind the Saratoga Brigade in second place of the Western Division.
The Blue Sox got the scoring going early as Jacob Bruce, who doubled earlier in the first inning, scored on a throwing error by Bay Sox starter Nick Friar (0-2).
With the bases loaded in the third inning, the Blue Sox would capitalize as Brendan Hendriks, who finished the game 1-for-4 with two RBIs, singled driving in Bruce and Sal Annuniziata making it 3-0 Blue Sox.
That would be all Blue Sox starter Michael Burke (1-0) would need as he threw seven innings giving up just one run on 10 hits while striking out eight along the way.
Vahn Bozoian would tack on some insurance in the fifth inning with his second home run of the season giving the Blue Sox the 4-1 lead and the eventual victory.
Holyoke is back in action on Monday taking on the Danbury Westerners (8-13) in Danbury, CT with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. at Rogers Park.
