Blue Sox Defeat Vermont 2-1

Montpilear, VT - The first start of the season for Evan Scott could not have gone better as he pitched an absolute gem going six innings, striking out seven batters, walking only three and gave up only one hit and no runs for the win.

The Blue Sox (10-4) defeated the Mountaineers 2-1 on Saturday night as Holyoke improved to 10-4 on the season with the victory and it extended their lead in the Western Division.

Holyoke jumped on the board first in the second inning when Alex Sherrod scored from third base on a sacrifice fly by Sam Eberle to give the Blue Sox a 1-0 lead.

That would hold until the sixth inning as both pitchers were dealing until the Blue Sox were able to get to Vermont starter JD Leckenby, who took the loss, for a run off an RBI double by Alex Sherrod driving in Ronnie Freeman from second base to take a 2-0 lead.

The Mountaineers (8-7) would strike for a run in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to a RBI triple by Tyler Young driving in Jeff Cammans who doubled earlier in the inning. it 2-1 and that would be the final as Ryan Harvey was able to come in and close out the game for his first save of the season.

Blue Sox are back in action tomorrow against Mystic.
