Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks are proud to announce that lead play-by-play announcer John Sadak of the Blue Rocks Radio Network was recently honored by the Delaware Press Association. Sadak's radio call of a memorable ninth-inning comeback victory versus Winston-Salem in 2006 garnered First Place in the "Best Presentation" category. Current 2007 broadcast partner Mark Kasubinski will receive the award on Sadak's behalf at the DPA's Annual Awards Banquet on April 24.
"The Wilmington Blue Rocks organization is extremely proud of this accomplishment," said Blue Rocks general manger Chris Kemple. "John is an outstanding broadcaster and multi-talented media professional, as evidenced by his work with both the Blue Rocks and the Blue Hens." Sadak, now in his second full-year as the voice of the Blue Rocks, also broadcasts University of Delaware Blue Hens women's basketball.
The award-winning broadcast submission featured Wilmington's wild ninth-inning rally at Frawley Stadium on June 18 of last season. Trailing the Warthogs 3-2, the Blue Rocks were benefactors of a walk and a hit-by-pitch in consecutive bases loaded at-bats, allowing them to tie the game and then walk-off with the victory. With the win, the Blue Rocks clinched the Northern Division first-half title and a guaranteed themselves trip to the Carolina League playoffs at season's end.
The Delaware Press Association, an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women, is a network of more than 100 journalists, broadcasters, and various other media professionals who are dedicated to the highest standards of excellence in communication and protecting First Amendment freedoms. The DPA strives to promote and uphold the highest ideals and standards of journalism and communications, encourage the exchange of ideas and experiences, and offer professional development opportunities.
The Blue Rocks launch their 2007 Carolina League campaign in Myrtle Beach with a 7:05 p.m. affair against the Pelicans on Thursday, April 5. That begins a string of eight-straight road contests for the Rocks, culminating in a four-game set in Kinston. The team returns to Wilmington for its home opener on Friday, April 13, as the Salem Avalanche invade Frawley Stadium for a 7:05 p.m. tilt. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Blue Rocks 15th Anniversary schedule magnet.
