Bluefield, WV - The Bluefield Blue Jays overcame an early deficit to the Greeneville Astros and won 8-3 on Monday night. All nine Bluefield batters picked up at least one hit as the Blue Jays improved to 16-20 while the Astros are now 22-17 on the season.

There was no score after the first inning, but the Astros changed that in the second. Ariel Ovando and Terrell Joyce each hit singles to start the inning before Angel Ibanez hit a sacrifice bunt that moved the runners over to second and third. After Ovando scored on a ground out, Jimmy Howick doubled to score Joyce. Then, in the bottom of the inning, Bluefield scored on a ground out to make the score 2-1.

The Astros led off the third inning with a Marc Wik double, and he scored after two straight ground outs brought him the rest of the way around to give Greeneville a 3-1 lead. However, the lead did not last long as the Blue Jays got four runs with two outs in their half of the inning. Following an Eric Arce walk, Seth Connor hit a RBI triple. The next batter, Dwight Smith, hit a two-run homer. Then, after a single from Santiago Nessy, Christian Lopes brought him home on a ball hit to center field that Lopes attempted to turn into an inside-the-park homer before being thrown out at home on a relay from Jose Monzon to Jean Batista to Ernesto Genoves. After all that, Bluefield led Greeneville 5-3.

In the fifth, the Blue Jays added another run on a Dickie Thon RBI single. Then, they followed that up with two more in the eighth on a Jacob Anderson RBI double and RBI single from Dennis Jones.

Johnson City, Tennessee native Daniel Norris earned the win for Bluefield after the lefty gave up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts over five innings.

With Greeneville taking game one on Sunday and Bluefield taking game two, the Astros and Blue Jays will face each other in the rubber match on Tuesday night. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
