Bluefield, WV - The Greeneville Astros, making their lone visit of the season to Bluefield, battled it out in a back-and-forth game with the Blue Jays on Sunday night. In the end, however, the Astros came away with an 8-7 victory in game one of their three-game series at Bowen Field.

Following a scoreless first inning, both teams picked up two runs in the second. Ernesto Genoves led off the inning with a single for the Astros before Ariel Ovando hit a two-run homer, his fourth in the last eight games. Then, the Blue Jays answered in the bottom of the inning with a double steal in which Christian Lopes stole home and Jacob Anderson hit a RBI single.

In the third inning, Greeneville's Genoves hit a solo homer to break the 2-2 tie. However, Bluefield came right back with a base-clearing double by Lopes to score three runs and put the Blue Jays up 5-3.

The Astros evened the score at 5-5 in the fourth inning. Jean Batista and Michael Martinez each got on with base hits before D'Andre Toney connected on a two-run single.

The fifth inning went scoreless, but the Astros retook the lead in the sixth. Brian Blasik hit a two-run single following a Jose Monzon walk, a Toney single and a sacrifice bunt by Marc Wik to move the runners to second and third.

Down 7-5, the Blue Jays made up one run in the bottom of the sixth on a Seth Conner RBI single. Then, in the seventh, Bluefield tied the game back up at 7-7 on a solo homer from Dickie Thon.

With no runs in the eighth inning, the game headed into the ninth all even. Genoves led off the inning with a walk for Greeneville. Then, Ovando singled to move Genoves to third. Finally, with Batista at the plate, a wild pitch from Bluefield allowed Genoves to cross home for the go-ahead score.

Greeneville reliever Jordan Jankowski, after three up and three down in the eighth, then struck out the side in the ninth. He earned the win (4-0) for the Astros after pitching two hitless innings and striking out four.
