BLUEFIELD, WV - The Bluefield Blue Jays swept the Johnson City Cardinals with 2 wins in a doubleheader at Bowen Field last night. Bluefield crushed a total of 4 home runs in the 2 games.

Per MiLB rules, the two games were only 7 innings compared to the usual 9-inning game.

In Game 1 of the doubleheader, the Jays' offense erupted for 3 homers by 3 separate players.

In the bottom of the 4th, DJ McKnight lined a 2-out single into centerfield setting the stage for the first of Bluefield's long-balls. The next batter was Gabe Clark, who then drove a towering fly ball over the left field wall giving the Blue Jays a 7-3 lead.

It was Clark's 2nd homer of the season and his first since his professional debut in Danville back on July 9.

From there, Bluefield would blow the game wide open.

Ben Yokley came in to replace Cardinals starter Josh Wirsu in the bottom of the 5th. Deiferson Barreto led the inning off with a walk. After Freddy Rodriguez flew out to left field, Juan Tejada came to the plate.

Tejada proceeded to hit a shot over the left field wall, his 3rd of the season, to make it 9-3 in favor of the Jays. Matt Morgan was able to keep the rally going with a single to left field.

Then came the nail in the coffin.

Rodrigo Orozco put a charge into a pitch that soared over the right field wall giving Bluefield an 11-3 lead it would not relinquish.

The Blue Jays had 16 of the game's 27 total hits.

Jays' starter Juliandry Higuera moved to 3-0 on the season going 5 innings and giving up 8 hits and 2 earned runs. His ERA sits at an impressive 1.05 for the season.

Bluefield continued to perform well at the plate in Game 2 of the doubleheader highlighted by a 2-run homer by Andres Sotillo in the bottom of the 2nd. The Blue Jays totaled 7 hits in a 5-2 win over Johnson City that clinched the sweep.

The two wins in the doubleheader moved Bluefield's record to 12-14 on the season. The Blue Jays will head to Greeneville, TN for a 3 game set with the Greeneville Astros before returning home to Bowen Field for a weekend series with the Danville Braves.
