Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, Florida - The Brevard Blue Ducks announced today that they will be returning to Brevard for another season beginning in April and that they will be moving to a new venue - the Clemente Center at Florida Tech in Melbourne.
"We are very pleased that we were able to negotiate a lease with Florida Tech for use of the Clemente Center," remarked Mike Richman, Blue Ducks owner. "It's the nicest facility in Brevard and should make a great home for the Blue Ducks and our fans the next few years."
Florida Tech President, Dr. Anthony Catanese, added, "We are delighted that the Clemente Center will be the new home for Brevard County's Blue Ducks. Allowing the Ducks to fly here will further open our campus and our wonderful center to the Brevard community. We relish the opportunity that this season provides."
The Blue Ducks 2003 regular season will run from April 18th through June 22nd. They will play 30 games during that time - 15 home and 15 away. A post-season festival to determine the league champion will run from June 27th through the 29th. A location for the tournament has not yet been awarded. The Blue Ducks are in the process of preparing a bid to bring the tournament to Brevard.
Season tickets for Blue Ducks games go on sale today with lower level tickets priced from under $150 for all 15 home games. New this year will be reserved courtside seats. Tickets are available by calling (321) 751-BLUE (2583) or by visiting the Blue Ducks website at www.BrevardBlueDucks.com. A seating chart for the Clemente Center is also available on the site.
Individual game tickets will go on sale in January, after the release of the league schedule.
The Blue Ducks are a member of the United States Basketball League (USBL), which serves as a minor league to the NBA. The USBL is the oldest continuously running minor league in the United States and has sent over 140 players to the NBA in its 18-year existence.
NBA stars such as Anthony Mason, Chris Childs, Mugsy Bogues, Spud Webb, Charlie Ward, Avery Johnson and Orlando's own Darrell Armstrong all got their start in the USBL. Ex-NBA players have coached many of the teams in the league. The Blue Ducks last year were coached by former NBA player Harvey Grant (Washington), twin brother of Magic forward Horace Grant. Donald Royal (Orlando) served as assistant coach. Other USBL teams this past season were coached by Rex Morgan (Celtics), Cliff Levingston (Bulls), Lionel Hollins (Portland), Darryl Dawkins (76'ers) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lakers).
