
Blue Crabs Avoid Sweep with 3-2 Extra Inning Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 3-2 in ten innings before 5,638 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.
Southern Maryland broke the 2-2 tie in the tenth on a sacrifice fly by Casey Benjamin for the 3-2 final.
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Jonny Tucker and Freddie Bynum.
The Blue Crabs evened up the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Christian Lopez.
Southern Maryland took the lead in the ninth after Benjamin singled and later scored on an error that allowed Mike Daniel to score for a 2-1 advantage.
The Patriots answered right back, tying up the game in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded walk to Tucker that made the score 2-2.
Jim Ed Warden (1-2) picked up the win, allowing a run in an inning pitched. Travis Bowyer (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing a run in an inning of work. Bryan Dumesnil earned his first save of the season.
Patriots starter Doug Arguello pitched five no hit innings and struck out eight in a row before the bullpen took over.
