Quad City Mallards News Release

Bloomington, IL - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Saturday night suffered a 5-2 loss to the host Bloomington PrairieThunder as Craig MacDonald broke loose for two goals and two assists.

The PrairieThunder jumped in front 1-0 just 18 seconds into the game when MacDonald drove the puck home from the top of the left wing circle.

Bloomington was on the power play when Brett Holmberg tipped Russ Smith's blue line blast just in over the goal line at 5:14 of the second period to stretch the Thunder lead to 2-0.

The gap widened to three when MacDonald struck again at 15:49 of the second by burying a rebound from the side of the net.

The Mallards would respond just 34 seconds later. Mike Zbriger swept in a rebound to get Quad City on the scoreboard for the first time.

The PrairieThunder stretched the margin back to three goals when Jamie Carroll scored a power play goal from the doorstep a mere 26 seconds into the third period.

The Mallards' Ryan Fultz charged into the goalmouth to make it 4-2 at 9:19 of the third, but any lingering Quad City comeback hopes were extinguished when Matt McIlvane scored an empty net goal with 34 seconds remaining.
