Green Bay Blizzard News Release

The final games of the regular season have been played and postseason is directly ahead. The Green Bay Blizzard (9-7) will be traveling to Quad City to take on the Steamwheelers (10-6) for the first round of the 2007 ArenaCup playoffs. Following the Steamwheelers' narrow 1-point win over the Fort Wayne Fusion last Thursday, the Steamwheelers have been crowned Midwest Division champs and occupy the number three playoff seed that goes with it. The Blizzard is slotted in the number six spot winning a head to head point differential tiebreak over the Louisville Fire (9-7). First round showdown between the Blizzard and the Steamwheelers is set for Friday, August 3rd at 7:30 p.m. CST.

Green Bay and Quad City traded wins during the regular season each winning their respective home games. In Green Bay on April 27th the Blizzard demonstrated total domination over the Steamwheelers going on to win 44-14. Two Blizzard players set team single game records in the big win: Jason Hardee recording 3.0 sacks, and Stephen Cason making 12.0 tackles. Cason has since broken his own record when he recorded 13.5 tackles in the Blizzard win over the Cincinnati Jungle Kats. When the Blizzard traveled to Quad City on June 29th the Steamwheelers returned the favor with a 61-33 win. The 61 points the Blizzard defense allowed in the loss was the team's third highest of the entire 2007 season.

The longstanding Blizzard - Steamwheeler rivalry stands at 4-6, the advantage going to Quad City. The two teams have never met in the playoffs though. The Blizzard is entering the postseason for the third consecutive season. The Blizzard have an all-time post season record of 3-2 and made their first ArenaCup appearance in 2006 when they were defeated by the Spokane Shock 34-57. The Steamwheelers have an all-time playoff record of 6-3, 6-2 at home. In five trips to the playoffs the Steamwheelers have advanced to the ArenaCup two times in both 2000 and 2001. Quad City emerged ArenaCup Champions in both of their championship game appearances.

The winner of Friday night's postseason match-up will advance to the American Conference Semi-Finals and will be playing the winner of #2 Spokane and #7 Louisville. For More information contact the Blizzard office at (920) 405-1264.
