BAKERSFIELD - The Blitz will be taking the field at home against the Arkansas Twisters of the af2's National Midwest Division on Sunday, June 25. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.
The Blitz and the Twisters are neck-n-neck in rankings and records. Both teams are ranked in second place in their divisions, each having an overall record of 7-4. On the defensive side, two players from each team are ranked in the league's top ten for overall recorded sacks this season. Blitz OL/DL, Jerry Turner is ranked third with 11 sacks and OL/DL, Daniel Kegler is ranked seventh with 5.5 sacks. Arkansas' FB/LB, Steve Watson is ranked first with 15.5 sacks and DLS, C.J. McLain is ranked second with 11.5 sacks.
Healthy x-rays show Blitz FB/LB, Nick Onaindia's broken ribs have healed; he has been released from long term injured reserve and is scheduled to play in this Sunday's game. Newly signed, OL/DL Adam Ficther has been placed on short term injured reserve.
As peak temperatures are expected this weekend during the hours of 2-6 p.m., the Blitz invite all senior citizens to beat the heat and join the team in the largest, "coolest" building in Bakersfield, Rabobank Arena. When senior citizens, ages 55 and over, present a photo I.D. at the box office they will receive one free general admissions ticket. Arena doors will be open at 2:00 p.m.
Sunday's game against the Twisters is also "Faith and Family Night." There will be a special appearance by Veggie Tale stars, Bob and Larry, as well as a half time show featuring pastors in the community for a pass, kick, and punt competition.
Great seats are still available for home games. For more information, call 377-BLITZ or visit www.bakersfieldblitz.com.
