Bakersfield Blitz News Release

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Saturday marked only the third time in franchise history that the Spokane Shock (3-3) have lost on their home turf at Spokane Arena, but it marked the second time it happened at the hands of the Bakersfield Blitz (4-2).

The Blitz arrived in Spokane on Saturday night as the losers of two straight games and in desperate need of a win to stay near the top of the West Division. After falling behind to the Shock, 21-0, after the first quarter, as they did against Central Valley in Week 5, the Blitz looked like they would be in for another uphill climb.

Their fortunes reversed as the defense rose to the occasion and the Blitz outscored Spokane, 44-7, in the final three quarters and 25-0 in the second half en route to a 44-28 victory against the defending ArenaCup champions.

DL Ben McCombs (Mid America Nazarene (KS), '01) had 5.5 tackles, 3 sacks, a safety and a fumble recovery in the win. DL Maurice Troutman (Arkansas - Pine Bluff, '05) added 2 forced fumbles and a sack of his own to help propel the Blitz to their first win since Week 4 against Stockton.

Offensively, QB Dennis Gile (Central Missouri, '01) spread the ball around all night long as three players all had at least 5 receptions. WR Rennard Reynolds (Alcorn State, '01) proved to be Gile's favorite target because the two hooked up 7 times for 71 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Blitz will be back home next Saturday to take on the Tri-Cities Fever (3-3) at Rabobank Arena at 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, please visit WWW.BBLITZ.COM or call 661-377-2548.
