BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield Blitz (5-9) had to win Saturday night's game against the visiting Everett Hawks (5-9) to keep their playoff hopes alive. When the dust had settled, the Hawks left Bakersfield with a 49-46 victory in front of 3,712 fans.
DB Nathan Munson (Upper Iowa, '01) made plays all over the field during the game on his way to capturing the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game. Munson ran the ball 8 times for 21 yards and 3 touchdowns, he caught 5 passes for 53 yards, he made 4 tackles, made his franchise-record 12th interception and racked up 91 yards on kickoff returns.
For the Everett Hawks, WR Josh Richey went over 100 yards again, catching 5 passes for 130 yards and 4 touchdowns. WR Phil Goodman also caught 8 passes for 90 yards.
Defensively for the Hawks, DL Chuck Jones took home ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors, recording 4 tackles and recovering a fumble. Jones spent part of the 2006 season with the Blitz.
Next up for Bakersfield, the Stockton Lightning will come to town for the second time this season. In Week 4, the Blitz knocked off the Lightning 45-43 when WR Eric Mahanke (Fresno State, '98) recovered a fumble in the endzone with 1 minute left.
