Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed defensemen Stacey Bauman and Justin Sawyer, head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Bauman, a 6-1, 187-pound native of Hanover, Ontario, is entering his sixth full season as a pro, his second in Oklahoma City. Last season with the Blazers, he played in 62 games, scoring 16 points (1-15-16), while serving 58 penalty minutes. In 278 games as a pro, the 28-year old Bauman has played in 278 games, recording 88 points (18-70-88) and serving 285 penalty minutes.
Perhaps his biggest accomplishment came for his work and dedication off the ice. Bauman was named the CHL Man of the Year for his commitment to helping others in the Oklahoma City area and beyond.
Sawyer, a 6-6, 235-pounder from Oshawa, Ontario, is entering his fourth full season as a pro, his second in Oklahoma City. Last season with the Blazers, he recorded career highs in nearly every offensive category including goals, assists, points and penalty minutes. His 303 penalty minutes paced the club and he became just the fifth player in franchise history to eclipse the 300-penalty minute mark. In 127 games over three seasons, he has recorded 16 points (1-15-16) while serving 520 penalty minutes.
"Both of these players know what they bring to our club from their position at defense," said Sauter. "Bauman is a terrific person and a great defenseman. Now that he has one year under his belt with the Blazers and knows how we play, I believe he will excel next season. Sawyer had a great season for us and showed signs of improvement each game. I expect him to return to our lineup with confidence that he can play and be a leader."
The Blazers 17th season of play commences October 17 at the Ford Center. The CHL plans to release the complete schedule in the coming weeks.
