West Virginia Blazers News Release

Bluefield, WV. The ABA West Virginia Blazers fell to the Eastern Kentucky Miners 140-94. In only their second game, the Blazers lost handily to the well-established CBA team before a crowd of 1786 fans. The Blazers are one of the ABA teams that will be playing inter-league games this season and entered the game without two of its starters, Chawn Martin, recuperating from a serious bout with the flue and Joey Preast, out with a broken nose received in the recent Nashville Broncs game.

The Miners gained a 20 point lead in the first quarter prior to the Blazers battling back to 12 points. But, the fourth quarter was too much and the Miners opened a huge lead that was insurmountable for the undermanned Blazer team. "Even though they were down the whole game in points, the Blazers fought hard," said Cindy Preast, Blazer GM.

"The CBA uses different rules and a different ball, both of which had an impact on the Blazers' play. That, along with two of our leading players being out, was tough to overcome. But the rest of the Blazers never gave up till the final buzzer. I am proud of them for that and the sportsmanship they showed evening. We will be back again and we will work towards a different outcome."
