
Blazers Drop Semifinal Game to Titans

Boston, MA - The Boston Blazers traveled to the Amway Arena Saturday evening to take on the Orlando Titans in the Eastern Semifinal Divisional Playoffs. Tonight's match-up marked the fourth time the two teams have met this season. While Boston led the series 2-1, they could not pull out the victory and were defeated 12-11.
Orlando opened the scoring with a power play goal by Pat Maddalena at the 5:22 mark in the first quarter but Boston would quickly counter with a net by Nick Cotter at 6:32. The Blazers would then score two back-to-back shorthanded goals by Dan Dawson and Gary Bining. Cotter would end the first quarter with his second of the evening off an assist from Dawson to bring Boston's lead to 4-2.
Casey Powell scored his first of the evening to begin the second quarter to bring the score back within one but Jamie Rooney countered just a minute later for Boston from an assist by defenseman Mitch Belisle. Mat Giles and Daryl Veltman netted two more for the Blazers at the 10:38 and 13:45 marks respectively making it 7-4 in favor of Boston at the half.
The second half began strong for the Titans as Powell scored two consecutive goals off assists by John Orsen and Maddalena bringing Orlando within one but Veltman would score at the 11:05 mark to bring Boston back within two.
Bill Greer and Orsen would score two goals for Orlando within thirty seconds of each other later in the third quarter to tie the game at 8-8. With just a minute remaining in the quarter, Veltman netted his third of the evening off an assist from Dawson to end it at 9-8 in favor of the Blazers.
The final quarter of this single elimination game remained scoreless in the fourth until the 12:20 mark when Powell made a diving leap behind the goal to drop one in for the Titans bringing the score back to even. Powell would score his fifth of the evening bringing Orlando ahead for the first time since the 10:07 mark in the first quarter.
Boston would rally as Rooney and Bining would score two consecutive goals within ten seconds of each other to bring the score to 11-11 with 4:30 remaining in the fourth. The Titans however were just too strong as Jordan Hall scored the game winning goal at the 10:58 mark ending the game 12-11.
Veltman would finish with three goals and three assists while Dawson had one goal and seven assists. Powell led Orlando with five goals and two assists. Boston goaltender Anthony Cosmo stopped 29 of 41 shots on goal. Titan Matt Vinc had 26 saves on 37 shots on goal.
