Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Mark Serrano set a season high in strikeouts, and the Blaze scored 4 runs in the 6th to pull away from the Storm, 6-0, on Fireworks Friday at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
The Blaze scored first, taking the team's first lead in the series on a Josh Fellhauer double (in his first at-bat back with Bakersfield) and a 2-error grounder in the first. Bakersfield added 1 more in the 3rd when Ryan La Marre singled with 2 out, stole his 41st bag of the season, and came home on a Brodie Greene line drive base hit.
But the game was largely decided in the 6th. After Lake Elsinore starter Jose De Paula (L, 8-5) departed the game, Matt Lollis entered and was greeted with 4 doubles and a walk, and before Lollis could settle in, the Blaze had plated 4 runs and led by a commanding 6 run margin.
Mark Serrano (W, 4-7) fanned 2 batters in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 1 batter in the 2nd, and fanned his 10th man in the 6th. The 10 strikeouts were followed by 1 more from Derrik Lutz, and 3 from Chris Manno, who struck out the side in the 9th.
In all, Blaze hurlers struck out 14 Storm hitters en route to the team's 3rd shutout of the season.
The win allows the Blaze to keep pace, 2 games back of Modesto in the Wild Card race. The series and homestand wrap up tomorrow on Bright House Networks Youth Sports Saturday. Another large crowd is expected, but good seats still remain! The game will be broadcast on the net at BakersfieldBlaze.com, as always, but tomorrow's game is also a Blaze Game of the Week, and will be broadcast live on terrestrial radio on SmartTalk-1230AM at 7:30pm.
