(LANCASTER, CA) - Eric Oliver ripped a three-run double in the top of the ninth and Inland Empire defeated the JetHawks 8-6 at Clear Channel Stadium Friday night. Oliver went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the 66ers. Andrew Robinson turned in a quality start for Lancaster by surrendering five hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched.

Robinson and Inland Empire starter Ariel Pena matched each other pitch for pitch in the early stages of the ballgame. Robinson tossed five scoreless frames and escaped a bases-loaded, no outs jam in the top of the fifth. Pena allowed just one unearned run through the first five innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, J.C. Thompson reached on a throwing error by 66ers third baseman Steven Irvine. Moments later, Erik Castro laced an RBI single into the right-center field gap, which put Lancaster in front 1-0.

The 66ers answered with two runs in the top of the sixth off Robinson. Oliver hit a solo home run in the frame, which gave Inland Empire a 2-1 edge.

But Lancaster reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning when Adam Bailey launched a grand slam off Pena, which made it a 5-2 ballgame.

Inland Empire scored twice in the eighth to reduce the deficit to a run. The JetHawks answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Jonathan Meyer doubled and J.C. Thompson followed with an RBI double. But the 66ers took the lead for good when Oliver cleared the bases with a three-run double off Patrick Urckfitz in the ninth.

The JetHawks fell to 14-27 in the second half and 42-69 overall. Inland Empire improved to 21-19 in the second half and 52-58 overall.

The JetHawks will try to bounce back when the two teams meet Saturday night at 7. Right-hander Jose Cisnero (7-9, 6.09 ERA) gets the start for Lancaster while Inland Empire is expected to counter with lefty Max Russell (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
