Blaze Ink Three Year Blaze Veteran Kautai Olevao

SALT LAKE CITY -The Utah Blaze are pleased to announce the signing today of three year Blaze veteran FB/LB Kautai Olevao (6-2, 285, Utah). The Blaze also signed DB Brandon Taylor (5-10, 195, New Hampshire).

Olevao spent three seasons with the Blaze prior to the AFL hiatus. In 2008, he played in 12 games where he recorded 7.5 total tackles and rushed seven times for 34 yards and one touchdown. In his second Blaze season, he played in 14 games with the Blaze where he recorded 14.5 tackles and 0.5 sacks. On offense, Olevao rushed 10 times for 32 yards and one touchdown. Olevao played in eight games with the Blaze in their inaugural season where he rushed for 46 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, he totaled 15.0 tackles. From 2003-04 Olevao played for the Utah Warriors (NIFL). Olevao played collegiately at the University of Utah where he served as Team Captain his junior and senior years. He was also named First-team All-MWC three times. He was on the Butkus Award Watch list and was named Team Defensive MVP his senior year.

Taylor spent the 2009 season with the Mahoning Valley Thunder of the af2 where he appeared in all sixteen games, leading the team in tackles with 82.0 and leading the team in interceptions with five. He also recorded 7.0 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one field goal return. In 2008, he played with the Albany Conquest of the af2, where he recorded a team leading 80.5 tackles and led the team in interceptions with seven. Taylor played collegiately at the University of New Hampshire where he spent time as both a defensive back and wide receiver.

This week, the Blaze also activated OL/DL Chris Watton (6-3, 285, Baylor) from the team suspension list and placed him on re-assignment. FB/LB Mickey Pimentel (6-0, 250, California) was placed on team suspension. DL Manny Wright was activated from team suspension and placed on the Injured Reserve List.

The Blaze will be celebrating Father's Day weekend with a Father's Day Funpak this Saturday as they take on the Tampa Bay Storm at 7 p.m. (MT). With the purchase of one ticket, Dad's ticket is FREE.
