SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of QB Bret Engemann (6-4, 215, BYU) to the 2011 roster. Engemann has been seen on the rosters of the Oakland Raiders (2003-05) of the NFL, Berlin Thunder (2005) and Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. "Engemann has a great arm and will provide the depth we need in the quarterback position," said Head Coach Ron James. "He is a local guy who people have heard of and I'm looking forward to seeing him in camp."

At BYU, Engemann completed 200-of-364 passes for 2,288 yards and nine touchdowns in his career. He was named MWC Offensive Player of the Week twice. The first came against Virginia in a 38-35 overtime, come-from-behind victory. He earned his second MWC honor as a junior after leading BYU to a 42-21 victory over Syracuse in the season-opener.

"I am really excited to be back in football and have the opportunity to compete again," said Engemann. "I'm honored to be playing in Utah and show the coaches what I have to offer."

Engemann, who grew up in Utah, was a four-year letterman in football and two years in baseball at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. He was named All-America by Super Prep magazine and earned all-state. As a senior, he was named the Utah Gatorade Player of the Year, ranking among the top five passers in the nation and threw for 2,400 yards and 23 touchdowns.
