Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Bakersfield Blaze held on for a 3-2 win over the Quakes on Tuesday night, their second straight to take two of three from the Quakes at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield.

Three Bakersfield relievers combined to limit the Quakes to just two base-runners over the final four innings.

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, the Quakes went 1-2-3 in consecutive innings against reliever Tzu-Kai Chiu. In the eighth, Travis Denker earned a one-out walk from Drew Bowman, but Bowman settled down and stranded the tying run.

Pinch-hitter Nick Buss walked with one out in the ninth, but was left stranded in scoring position as Blaze closer Scott Gaffney fanned Rafael Ynoa to end the game for his third save of the year.

The Quakes took a 1-0 lead in the second over Bakersfield starter Lance Janke (4-4), as Blake Smith walked and eventually scored on a two-out single from Noel Cuevas.

Quakes' starter Arismendy Ozoria (1-3) was sharp for the most part, but got touched for three runs in the third, as the Blaze took the lead for good. Ozoria allowed a lead-off double to A.J. Means, putting the tying run in scoring position. Jose Gualdron followed with a ground ball that was misplayed by Rafael Ynoa, putting runners at the corners with no outs. Brodie Green followed with an RBI single, tying the game up at 1-1. Josh Fellhaur then singled home Gualdron, putting the Blaze up 2-1. Yasmani Grandal capped the frame with an RBI groundout, making it 3-1.

The Quakes got their final run in the fifth, as Angelo Songco's sac fly plated Jake Lemmerman to make it a one-run game at 3-2.

Despite the loss, High Desert's loss to Inland Empire on Tuesday night lowers the Quakes' magic number to just eight.

Rancho (32-26) will take Wednesday off, then return to action on Thursday, June 9th, as they open a seven-game home stand against Visalia. Aaron Miller (2-1) will take on Visalia's Eric Smith (2-7) in the series-opener at 7:05pm. Thursday is another Buffalo Wild Wings Thirsty Thursday at The Epicenter. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter...GO Quakes!
