SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze have been assigned OL Ed Ta'amu, the team announced today. The move reunites Ta'amu with Coach Ron McBride, who was his Head Coach at the University of Utah. A four-year Arena Football veteran, Ta'amu started a handful of games along the offensive line for the Blaze in 2011.

"Bringing Ed Ta'amu back to the Blaze makes sense for the team," said President & Head Coach Ron James. "He's one of the best pass blockers I have worked with in the AFL. He has knowledge of our offensive system and a strong rapport with our Offensive Line Coach."

Ta'amu (6-1, 365, Utah) was selected in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He signed with the Houston Texans the following season, but a knee injury suffered during his rookie year derailed his career.

After spending the next two seasons rehabbing his knee, Ta'amu returned to football in 2006 as a member of the af2's Spokane Shock. He joined the Arena Football League in 2007 with the Kansas City Brigade, where he played for two seasons. Ta'amu returned to Spokane in 2010 following the league hiatus and signed with the Blaze during the 2011 season.

A Hawaii native, Ta'amu played collegiately at the University of Utah from 1998-2001. He spent his first two seasons on the defensive side of the ball before converting to the offensive line. Ta'amu started at guard the next two seasons, earning All-Western Athletic Conference accolades in both years.
