
Blaze Add Depth to Secondary

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze are pleased to announce the signing of DB Joe Lopez (6-0, 200, Cortland State) to the 2011 roster.
"Lopez is a fine young defensive back with great cover skills," said Head Coach Ron James. "He should add a great deal of consistency to our secondary."
In Lopez's final campaign at Cortland State, he broke the school record with an interception in six consecutive games. He also tied the single-season record for interceptions with eight (one returned for a touchdown). Lopez finished third on the team with 61.0 total tackles, eight pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble in 12 games. He also earned All-East First Team, All-ECAC Southeast Region First Team, First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference, D3football.com All-American First Team and honorable mention accolades.
As a junior, he logged nine games with 37.0 total tackles, seven pass breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble. In his first two seasons, he played in 20 games, compiling 59.0 total tackles, ten pass breakups and two interceptions.
The Blaze will be hosting Youth Sports Night this Saturday, July 16th versus the New Orleans VooDoo in their final home game of the season. All youths wearing their youth sports jersey will receive free admission. *Limit two free admissions per paying adult.
