Indiana Blast News Release

INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Blast picked up their first win of 2002 by beating the Portland Timbers 1-0 Friday night at Kuntz Soccer Stadium on a 54th minute goal by Jeff Dresser. It was the first win in twelve games dating back to last year for the Blast.

Two Indy 500 drivers, Billy Boat and Sarah Fisher, treated blast fans with a visit and autograph session, as well as a win by the home team. Sarah Fisher tossed the opening coin toss, and Billy Boat was the color commentator for a halftime promotion.

Portland created the first scoring opportunity when Timbers' Midfielder Hugo Cuellar was isolated one-on-one and beat his defender in the 9th minute. Blast Goalkeeper Josh Lynk made the first of several huge saves by snaring Cuellar's shot on goal.

In the 39th minute the Blast mounted an attack off of Godfrey Tenoff's pass through the penalty area intended for Jeff Dresser. Dresser would have scored easily, but he could not catch up to the pass.

Down 11-2 in shots, the momentum finally swung to the Blast one minute before the end of the first half. Portland Forward and Indianapolis native, McKinley Tennyson, received the ball directly in front of the goal 22 yards out, gathered himself and shot a laser beam to the right corner of the goal. Josh Lynk was able to slow the ball just enough enabling Tommy Keenan to come out of nowhere and clear the ball just before it crossed the goal line. Lynk then recovered from his own save to dive on the ball in a crowd.

The Blast finally got on the board when Dustin Ottesen made a nice run down the right side of the field, sent a cross just outside the box where Jeff Dresser outran his defender and slid the ball past Portland Goalkeeper, Matt Napolean, for his second goal of the season.

The Blast's next home game will be May 17th against the Minnesota Timbers at 7:35 pm. Come early to the game and participate in the White Castle Tailgate Party. Gates will open at 6:30pm.
