Blake Returns for NBDL Draft Analysis

GREENVILLE, S.C., October 29, 2003 – For the second consecutive year, NBA director of scouting Marty Blake will lend his expert commentary to the webcast of the annual National Basketball Development League player draft. Blake will be joined this year by his partner and son Ryan. In addition to Marty and Ryan Blake, NBA Commissioner David Stern and NBA Executive VP for Basketball Operations Stu Jackson will take part in the draft into.

The third annual NBDL Draft is scheduled for November 6 at 6 p.m. CT. The draft will take place over 10 rounds and be conducted via conference call from locations in each of the six NBDL markets beginning at 6 p.m. CT.

Marty and Ryan Blake will join the NBDL league office staff at draft headquarters at the Hilton Garden Inn in Duluth, Ga., a suburb of Atlanta. The Blakes will offer commentary to NBDL draft parties and in-market media via the conference call. The streaming audio can be heard by logging on to NBDL.com

The Huntsville Flight will have the first selection in the draft, followed by the Columbus Riverdragons, Asheville Altitude, Roanoke Dazzle, North Charleston Lowgators and 2003 NBDL regular season champion Fayetteville Patriots.

The selection process will operate with each team having one pick in each of the 10 rounds. Teams will have up to three minutes to make a selection in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBDL Standard Player Contract will be eligible to be drafted.

"Our director of basketball operations and player personnel Chris Alpert has done a tremendous job signing players for the 2003 draft," NBDL President Phil Evans said. "The talent reflected in the draft runs from players who are sure to be NBA callups, to those who will really benefit from the developmental aspect of our league."

Roanoke selected forward Mikki Moore with the first pick in the 2002 NBDL Draft. Moore went on to earn NBDL Defensive Player of the Year honors and was signed to 10-day contracts by the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks before finishing the season with Atlanta. Four of last season's eight first-round selections went on to play in the NBA. In all, 10 players were called up 14 times last year, boosting the two-year NBDL total to 22 callups spread over 18 players. Over 30 former NBDL players were in NBA vet camps in October.
