ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (16-9-0) extended their win streak to seven games with an exciting 3-2 shootout victory over the Greenville Road Warriors (16-5-2) on Wednesday night at Germain Arena.

The first of four straight between the two South Division leading teams saw them battle to a scoreless first period. The Everblades penalty killers came up big in the opening 20 minutes, killing off three Greenville power play chances.

Once the puck dropped in the second period, the Everblades got the scoring off to a quick start. Matthew Pistilli completed a nice passing play just 1:05 into the frame to give the Everblades a 1-0 lead. Cedric McNicoll and Mike McKenzie began the play before McKenzie found Pistilli at the left post with a good, hard pass that Pistilli slammed past Road Warriors net-minder Dov Grumet-Morris.

Just over four minutes later however Greenville evened the score when Justin Bowers' slap shot from the right circle got past Everblades goalie Bobby Goepfert at 4:24, but Florida answered that tally with their second goal of the night at 9:21. Jared Staal tallied his third goal of the season by swatting home a rebound at the top of the crease off a Mathieu Roy shot from the top of the left circle. Bobby Raymond also picked up an assist on the tally.

The Everblades carried the one-goal lead into the third period where they clamped down defensively on the Road Warriors and carried the majority of the offensive play. Late in the period though, Greenville found a way to tie the score a two with a hard slap shot by Mark Voakes from the left circle that sailed by the glove of Goepfert and into the net with 2:29 remaining in regulation.

After neither team was able to score in overtime, which included 1:32 of power play time for the Everblades, the game moved into a shootout. In the shootout, Florida used goals by Mitch Fadden, Francis Lemieux and Matthew Pistilli, while Goepfert held the Road Warriors to just two goals in their five opportunities.

In goal Goepfert won his fourth straight to improve his record to 9-5-0 by stopping 27 shots in regulation and overtime. Grumet-Morris (8-2-1) earned a tie after stopping 21 of 23 shots in regulation and overtime.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-of-3, while Greenville closed out the game 0-of-4.
