Blades Force Game 5 After 3-2 Overtime Win

BOISE, ID - The Florida Everblades (10-6) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (12-5) 3-2 in overtime in front of a record crowd of 5,771 at the Bank of America Centre in Game #4 of the Kelly Cup Finals on Friday night. Florida forward Jay Legault picked up his second game winning goal of the playoffs in overtime and Jeff Maund stopped 36 shots in the win. Idaho now leads the best of seven series three games to one. Game #5 will be played in Boise, Idaho at the Bank of America Centre on Saturday, May 22nd at 9:05 PM EDT.

In the first period, the Steelheads picked up the first goal of the game when Idaho defenseman David Cornacchia skated out of the penalty box and into a 3 on 1 situation where he found a streaking Jeff Bateman who fired the puck past Blades netminder Jeff Maund at the 5:47 mark of the first period. The Everblades tied the game at 1-1 when Florida forward Brian McCullough slipped a rebound into the net at the 6:33 mark. Florida defensemen Jared Newman and Tim O'Connell picked up the assists on McCullough's 5th goal of the post season.

In the second period, the Everblades grabbed their first lead of the Kelly Cup Finals and made it 2-1 after Chris Thompson collected a Matt Pagnutti pass while Florida was shorthanded and wristed the puck over the glove of Steelheads netminder Dan Ellis.

In the third period, the Steelheads battled back and tied the game at 2-2 after Idaho forward Zenon Konopka fired wrist shot that hit traffic in front of the Florida net and found its way through Jeff Maund's legs at the 10:38 of the third period.

In overtime, the Everblades forced a game five after Jay Legault got by an Idaho defenseman and jammed in his own rebound to give the Blades a 3-2 overtime victory.

Florida goaltender Jeff Maund (2-3) stopped 36 of 38 shots he faced while Steelheads netminder Dan Ellis (12-3) stopped 32 of 35 shots he faced. The Everblades were 0 for 3 on the power play while the Steelheads were 0 for 7.

The Everblades take on the Idaho Steelheads in Game #5 of the Kelly Cup Finals on Saturday night at 9:05 PM EDT. The game can be seen locally in SW Florida on UPN-8 beginning at 9:00 PM.
