Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades president and general manager Craig Brush along with head coach Malcolm Cameron announced today the addition of three new names to the roster, and five previously signed players returning from American Hockey League training camps.
The Everblades' goaltending question was solved with the assignments of David Leggio from the Albany River Rats and David Shantz from the Rochester Americans. Additionally, the Americans assigned forward Jacob Micflikier to the Everblades.
Shantz, a familiar name to Everblades fans has spent parts of the past two seasons with the Everblades. The 22-year-old split the 2007-08 campaign between the Blades and Amerks. After beginning the season with Rochester where he was 1-10-1 with a 4.07 goals against average, the former 2nd round draft pick by the Florida Panthers in 2004 completed last season with the Everblades where he posted an 11-5-3 record with a 2.56 GAA.
Leggio (pronounced: LEG-ee-oh) is a rookie out of Clarkson University where in 2007-08 he backstopped the Golden Knights to a 22-12-4 record with a 2.20 GAA in 38 games. During his junior season in 2006-07, the 24-year-old was named a First Team ECAC All-Star and was honored with the Ken Dryden Award as the ECAC's top goaltender after posting a 24-7-5 record with a 2.16 GAA.
Micflikier (prounounced: mick-FLICK-er) joins the Everblades after splitting the 2007-08 season between the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL and the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. As a rookie the 24-year-old notched 37 points (10g, 27a) in 29 games with Stockton, plus skated in eight games with Springfield, scoring five points (1g, 4a). Micflikier becomes the second University of New Hampshire product added to the Blades roster in the past week, joining defenseman Craig Switzer.
Switzer, along with fellow defenseman Brad Zanon and forwards Danick Bouchard, Mathieu Roy and Andrew Fournier were all returned to the Everblades from AHL camps. Switzer and Zanon return after their stints with the San Antonio Rampage, Bouchard participated in camp with Rochester, Roy skated with the Grand Rapids Griffins during camp and Fournier experienced his first AHL camp with Milwaukee Admirals.
Although not all players will be present for the open of Everblades training camp on Monday morning, the Everblades begin their 2008-09 training camp with a roster of 24 players.
