St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD-St. Joe (5-3, 31-25) tried to rally in the opener in Sioux Falls, but fell, 5-3, to the Canaries (3-4, 19-36). Sioux Falls led throughout, but St. Joe mounted a rally and left the bases loaded in the ninth.
Chad Hermansen was the hitting hero for the hometown Canaries, with three of their five hits. Hermansen had two home runs and a double with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
St. Joe trailed 2-0 when Cody Nowlin dropped a solo home run over the right field wall in the second to bring the 'Snakes within 2-1. But the Canaries scored runs in the second and fourth to make it 4-1 before Chad Hermansen hit his second home run in the fifth to make it 5-1.
The 'Snakes began to rally with a run in the seventh on a run-scoring hit by Misha Dworken to make it 5-2. It stayed that way into the ninth and Terrell Merriman led off the top of the ninth with a triple. After a strikeout and a Cody Nowlin walk, Dworken again singled in a run to make it 5-3 and put the tying run on base. St. Joe later loaded the bases with two outs before Ben Thomas struck out to end the game with the potential tying run at second.
St. Joe and Sioux Falls have a short turnaround with a 12:05pm start Wednesday for the middle game of the three-game series. Shingo Mitsumori (0-2) will make a spot start for the Blacksnakes against the Canaries' Doug Johnson (3-5). The webcast starts at 11:45am from Sioux Falls Stadium at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
