St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
St. Joseph, MO-The St. Joe Blacksnakes are proud to announce Heartland Health as their presenting sponsor for the upcoming 2006 baseball season.
That was the biggest among many announcements made by the team this afternoon at Phil Welch Stadium on the eve of their first game.
Heartland Health is an integrated health delivery system, including a medical center, physician practices, foundation and a health plan. Heartland Health is the region's largest employer and the Blacksnakes are excited to have a corporate community leader on board as their presenting sponsor.
"We are extremely fortunate to have partnered with Heartland Health in our inaugural season," President Mark Schuster said. "Heartland will not only have a significant presence inside and outside the ballpark but our players will have access to the very best doctors."
Among the other announcements, General Manager Duane Miller provided an update on the renovation of Phil Welch Stadium. The team has already expanded and improved the dugouts, re-painted the ballpark and re-worked the bathrooms and concessions area. To enhance the fans experience, the team recently installed a new sound system and is in the process of creating graveled picnic areas down both the right-field and left-field lines by moving the bullpens on to the field.
Miller then discussed the promotions and giveaways fans can expect to see over the summer, highlighting Opening Night. The team will have seven giveaway nights-including the first three home games-and fans will receive schedule magnets, mini-bats, baseballs and more throughout the season. The Blacksnakes also have The Famous Chicken coming to Phil Welch Stadium, July 15. There are also weekly promotions that run from unique (Ice Cream Sundays and Margarita Mondays) to explosive (Friday Night Fireworks).
Lastly, the team unveiled each of their three first-year uniforms. Field Manager Chris Carminucci discussed the team's outlook and released the Opening Day roster. The Blacksnakes home jerseys will be white with "SJ" in black interlocking letters on the left side and red numbering on the front with their names on the back in black. They will also have a road grey uniform and an alternate black jersey top that can be worn home or away.
The Blacksnakes season opens tomorrow in Sioux Falls, SD, against the Sioux Falls Canaries. The team will be on the road for the first week before opening the home schedule Friday, May 19th, against those same Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:05pm.
