
Black Wolves Hand Halifax 16-10 Loss

New England defeated Halifax 16-10 in a North Division matchup. The Thunderbirds received their second loss of the weekend after falling to the Buffalo Bandits just the night before. The Black Wolves picked up their second win of the weekend, improved to 7-3 overall, is first in the East Division and in a three-way tie for first in the league.
The game jumped out to a quick start with the Thunderbirds up 1-0 in the first nine seconds of action. The Black Wolves struck back with four straight goals of their own. Andrew Kew laid in the first and third on Stephan Leblanc assists. Defenseman, Jackson Nishimura netted in his first of the season in transition on an outlet from Doug Jamieson in net. Joe Resetarits followed behind on another Leblanc assist to give New England a 4-1 lead. Leblanc's third assist of the game marked his 800th career point and propelled him into fourth in New England franchise history with 138 total assists as a Black Wolf.
Halifax received two straight goals to end the first quarter and start the second. Trevor Smyth netted the first one in unassisted and Cody Jamieson followed.
The Black Wolves' offense continued to flow well into the second quarter as the team netted another four unanswered goals. Kew secured a hat trick with his third goal of the game, Callum Crawford and Reilly O'Connor netted in their first and Resetarits tacked on his second. Creighton Reid had a hand in both Kew's and Crawford's goals.
Still, the Thunderbirds showed resiliency and struck back with three straight goals of their own. Jamieson added two more goals, to tally a hat trick of his own. One of the goals came on a power play, Jamieson and Halifax's second of the game. Austin Shanks separated the pair of goals to come cut the Black Wolves' lead down to 8-6. Jordan Durston was able to net one in late in the second to bring the lead back up to three going into the third.
To open up the third quarter, Crawford tucked two away for New England and recorded his third of the game. Jamieson of Halifax continued to keep the Thunderbirds in it after scoring his fourth of the evening in between Crawford's goals.
Halifax added a late goal in the third and grabbed an early one in the fourth to make the score, 11-9. As the game continued to close in, things began to get chippy between the two opponents but the Black Wolves netted in five fourth quarter goals to secure the 16-10 win.
New England defenders Adam Bomberry and John LaFontaine each found the back of the net to start things off. Bomberry grabbed his second goal this season and LaFontaine netted in his first. Clarky Petterson scored the final goal for Halifax and broke up what would have been five straight goals from the Pack. Crawford added two more on the evening for a team high five goals. Colton Watkinson closed out the night with a goal in transition on an outlet pass from Jamieson in the net.
Overall, it was a close contest on the stat line. New England produced 52 shots, picked up 71 loose balls and had 19 turnovers. Halifax got off 51 shots, snagged 79 loose balls and committed 16 turnovers. While in the net, Doug Jamieson racked up 41 saves on 51 shots on goal. Pete Dubenski stood in net for the Thunderbirds and tallied 37 saves on 51 shots on goal. On the faceoff, Jake Withers went 19-for-30 while Joe Nardella tallied 11.
New England will pick back up on Saturday, Mar. 7 when the team travels to Philadelphia, PA to faceoff against the Philadelphia Wings in their last match of the three-game series.
