New England Black Wolves News Release

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The Minnesota Swarm scored nine second-half goals to hand the New England Black Wolves their first loss of the season, 19-13 at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Kevin Buchanan tied a career high with five goals and tied his season high with four assists. Pat Saunders had a career-high five assists with two goals and Jamie Lincoln scored a season-high three goals. Kyle Buchanan chipped in four assists for the Black Wolves who fell to 2-1 on the season

Shayne Jackson led all Swarm scorers with four goals and three assists. Callum Crawford added three goals of his own with four assists. Jordan Macintosh had three goals and two assists and rookie Miles Thompson had two goals and a team-high five assists. The seven total points for Thompson were a career high, but he was held to fewer than three goals for the first time this season.

The Swarm (2-1) ran out to a 6-3 lead in the first quarter led by two goals and an assist by Jackson. Kevin Buchanan helped keep it close for New England with two goals of his own.

"We played like we had a week off," Black Wolves coach Blane Harrison said, referring to New England's bye last week. "We were playing pretty good, but then we went our separate ways. They (Minnesota) were battle tested and ready to go, and they took it to us."

The Black Wolves came storming back in the second quarter scoring the first four goals of the period to take a 7-6 lead. Kevin Crowley and Kyle Buchanan each had a goal during the four goal run while Kevin Buchanan scored two more.

Minnesota took control once again heading in to the half scoring four of the final five goals to take a 10-8 leading going into intermission.

The second half would be all the Swarm as New England would only get as close as three goals during the final two periods and outscored the Black Wolves 9-5 after the break. The 19 goals scored by Minnesota were the most for the Swarm since a 21-7 rout of Buffalo on April 6, 2013.

"We knew it was important to match the intensity we had seen on film," said Minnesota head coach Joe Sullivan. "It was a great game between two young teams."

Evan Kirk started in goal for New England making 25 saves on 41 shots in a losing effort. Tye Belanger made his first appearance of the season in the fourth quarter facing six shots and stoping four of them.

Zach Higgins made 41 saves on 54 shots pushing the Minnesota to their second win in a row and on the season.

Attendance for tonights game was 3563.

The Black Wolves return to action on Friday, January 30th when they travel to Edmonton to take on the Rush for their first road game of the year. Game time is 7:30 pm.
