Black Bears Win in Corvallis, a Win Wednesday Night

In a must-win game with the team's playoff livelihood at stake, the Cowlitz Black Bears began like their backs were against the wall. The team turned a leadoff double into a 1-0 lead through the first inning, and added an additional run in the 3 rd .

Stuart Fewel (LCC) took the hill for the Black Bears, and delivered in a big way. In eight innings he gave up one unearned run on nine hits against the second-best hitting team in the league. His spot-on command helped him scatter the hits, and he walked just one Corvallis hitter.

Corvallis tied the game in the bottom of the 9 th off of the Black Bear bullpen, but the bats answered in the top of the 10 th . The first 7 Black Bear batters in the inning reached base, with one on a fielder's choice to plate four runs and turn a 3-3 tie into a 7-3 Cowlitz lead.

Kevin Schwartz (Pacific University) went two-for-three with a pair of doubles and was hit by a pitch. Beau Didier (LSU) struck out in his first two plate appearances but after that had a double and a walk with two runs scored. Braxton Miller (Lewis-Clark St.) was two-for-four with a double, two RBI, and a run scored. Bailey Graham (LCC) was one-for-two with two walks and an RBI groundout.

A win on Wednesday night will put the Black Bears in the playoffs. It's Burgerville Family Night where a pack of four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas is only $28, and the team will celebrate Fan Appreciation Night. Outrageous prizes will be given away all game long.
