Black Bears Win In 10 Innings

Bend: July 13, 2011: *After winning the first game of the series yesterday, the Cowlitz Black Bears set their sights on sweeping the season series against the Bend Elks. The game started off much like last night's 11-2 romp as Cowlitz had a 5-0 lead going into the bottom of the 4thinning.
Bend responded with single tallies in the 4th and 5th, but did the major damage in a four-run seventh inning that cut the lead to 6-4 and saw Bears starter Kevin Bosson (Cal Poly Pomona) exit the game. Cowlitz added one run in the top of the 8th, but gave it back in the bottom half of the frame as two Bend runs evened the score at seven.
That was where things stood until the 10th, when Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) singled to score Billy Flamion (Central Catholic HS). In the bottom half of the inning Ian Ekery (University of Missouri) pitched around a base hit and struck out the last batter to secure the victory.
Cowlitz has taken all 5 games against the Bend Elks and will look to sweep the 6-game summer series tomorrow night.
The team is back in action at Story Field starting July 19th against the Kitsap Blue Jackets. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday with general admissions tickets, hot dogs, soda, and beer are all just two dollars, along with Kelso Schools Spirit Night. Following that will be Burgerville Family Night on Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday on Thursday.
