Falcons Can't Sweep the Gems

July 14, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release

The Kelowna Falcons fell just short of their first series sweep of the season when they dropped their third game against the Klamath Falls Gems 2-1. The Falcons now fall to 10-23 on the season, with the Gems just ahead at 12-20.

Gems pitcher Nathan Bunch was the Player of the Game, pitching seven innings and only allowing two hits and one run during that span. He also recorded 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. His pitching hampered the Falcons' offense all game long, preventing them from being able to build any momentum beyond the single run that Ben Swinford scored in the 4th inning. Bunch's record is now 2-2 this season. Patrick O'Rourke recorded his third save of the year, pitching a scoreless ninth.

An RBI single by Klamath Falls' 1st Baseman Nick Miller opened the scoring. With one gone, he bounced the ball off the ground where it caught on something and then took a huge hop over the head of Keach Ballard during a play that looked like it was going to be an easy double play for the Falcons.

David Otterman was hit with the loss despite both runs the Gems would score were unearned. He would throw eight innings allowing 3 hits, 3 walks and 1 strikeout. He is now 2-2 for the season.

The Falcons finished with 1 run, 3 hits, 3 errors and 4 left on base, while the Gems tallied 2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors and 4 left on.

The Falcons now hit the road for their second series against the Corvallis Knights this season, and are back at home to play their arch nemesis, the Wenatchee Applesox, on starting Tuesday night. First pitch will be at 6:35pm, and it will be Toonie Tuesday, so all gate admissions will only charge $2.
