Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview: Mike Murray (Hawaii Pacific) and three other pitchers combined for a shutout and three Black Bears' hitters registered multiple hits as the team defeated the Portland Dukes for their fourth consecutive win.
Murray expertly changed speeds and kept the Dukes guessing, allowing only one hit and three walks during his stint. Mitchell Tripp (Oregon State), Ian Ekery (Central Arizona), Alec Cordova (Cal State Fullerton), and Zev Egli (Mt. Hood CC) all pitched one scoreless inning, with Egli getting the save. The Dukes only got two hits the entire game.
The Black Bears got their first run in the bottom of the first inning when Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana) brought in a run on a double play. Derrick Salberg (Lower Columbia) brought in another run in the next inning when he singled in Nick Paxton (Mt. Hood CC). The last run came via an Austin Wobrock (Orange Coast College) fielder's choice in the eighth. Wobrock, Salberg, and Cody Childs (Mt. Hood CC) each recorded two hits in the ballgame.
The Black Bears next game is Sunday, June 10 against the Portland Stars where Best Care Local Care will present Kids Club & Senior Sunday. There will be a $2 discount for all seniors and Kids Club members get in for free. Kids get to run the bases after the game.
