Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview: For a second consecutive night at Story Field, Matt Ozanne (Santa Clara) was the hero. He capped a five-run late-game comeback with a two-out RBI triple to score Brian Carroll (UCLA) and give the Black Bears a 6-5 win over the Klamath Falls Gems.

The Black Bears are now 20-22 on the season and tied with Klamath Falls and Bend for the final playoff spot in the WCL's West Division.

The Black Bears trailed 3-0 before Ozanne gave them their first run of the game on an RBI double in the fifth. He finished 3-4 with a double, triple, walk, and three RBI.

Klamath got two runs in the top of the seventh but the Black Bears got three in the bottom half of the inning, starting when Ben Swinford (Cornell) scored on a dropped third strike. Alex Rubanowitz (UC Riverside) had a clutch two-run double.

Brian Frattali (Portland) tied the game in the eighth with an RBI groundout. With two outs and Carroll at third, Ozanne hit his triple barely fair down the right-field line. Taylor Williams (Mt. Hood) pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save of the season and second in as many games.

The Black Bears next home game is Sunday, July 29 against the Klamath Falls Gems and it will be Best Care-Local Care Presents Kids Club & Senior Sundays. There will be a $2 discount for all seniors. Kids Club members get in for free. Kids run the bases after the game.
