Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: July 19, 2011: The Cowlitz Black Bears returned home after a six-game road trip to face the Kitsap BlueJackets. Matt Maurer (Pepperdine) took the hill looking to erase a string of subpar starting pitching performances, but ran into serious trouble in the 2ndinning. Kitsap entered the contest averaging 3.3 runs per game, but scored 8 in the 2nd on seven hits, two walks, and a hit batter. Richi Sandoval (New Mexico Highland) came on in relief of Maurer and pitched from the 2nd inning until the end of the 7th.
BlueJackets starter Terik Gofinch silenced Cowlitz's bats, striking out seven and allowing just two hits in his six innings of work. Three Black Bears reached base more than once: Beau Didier (LSU) on a triple and a walk, Billy Flamion (University of Oregon) on a single and a walk and Trent Zaks (UC Irvine) on a pair of free passes.
The Black Bears will look to even the series tomorrow at 6:35 pm. Come on out for Burgerville Family Night. A package of four general admissions tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas costs just $28. The series finale will be Thirsty Thursday and Ladies Night presented by Estetica Day Spa where ladies get $2 off general admissions tickets.
