Black Bears Split Doubleheader in Bend

Bend: The Black Bears bats came alive as they banged out 10 hits and took game two of the doubleheader against Bend, 5-1 to avenge a 3-0 loss in game one.

The Black Bears struggled on offense in the first inning, mustering only singles from Tyler Madrid (Santa Ana) and Austin Diemer (Cal State Fullerton). Felipe Perez (UCLA) gave up three runs in five innings of work and Kevin Sprague (UC Riverside) pitched a scoreless inning.

In game 2, the Black Bears struck first, getting two runs in the third inning on a fielder's choice by Ben Swinford (Cornell). In the fifth, Brian Carroll (UCLA) doubled home a run and eventually scored on a bunt; Alex Rubanowitz (UC Riverside) had an RBI single. John Bjorklund (Mt. Hood) got the win, pitching three scoreless innings and allowing one hit and no walks.

The Black Bears next home game is Sunday, August 5 against the WCL Portland All-Stars and it will be Best Care- Local Care Presents Kids Club & Senior Sundays. There will be a $2 ticket discount for all seniors. Kids Club members get in for free. Kids run the bases after the game.
