Black Bears Open 6-Game Trip with 6-2 Victory

Kelowna: June 13, 2012: Trailing 2-0 through three innings, the Cowlitz Black Bears bashed their way to six unanswered runs, defeating the Kelowna Falcons 6-2 to snap a two-game losing streak.
Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana) ignited the comeback with RBI singles in both the fourth and six innings, tying the game at 2. Brian Frattali (U of Portland) and Nick Paxton (Mt. Hood) put the Black Bears ahead in the seventh when Frattali drew a bases-loaded walk and Paxton had a run-scoring single. The pair gave the team insurance runs in the top of the ninth when they both singled in a run apiece.
Alec Cordova (Cal State Fullerton) overcame some shoddy defense to deliver another quality start for the Black Bears. After yielding an unearned run in each of the first two innings, he held Kelowna scoreless over the last three and two thirds innings of his outing. Cordova now holds a 1.23 ERA. Koby Gauna (Cal State Fullerton) then came on in relief in his first appearance as a Black Bear and pitched three and a third scoreless innings, striking out three.
The Black Bears next home game is against the Corvallis Knights on Tuesday, June 19. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday where general admission tickets, hot dogs, soda, and beer are all $2 apiece. It is also Kelso-Longview Chamber of Commerce Night and COC members receive $2 off any ticket and $5 off Party Deck tickets.
