Black Bears Lose in Wenatchee
July 6, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Wenatchee: July 5, 2011: *The Black Bears entered the contest with the Wenatchee AppleSox tied for first place in their division for the first time since the beginning of the season. The team had stormed back from down in the standings thanks to victories in nine of their previous ten games.
That all would change in the first meeting with the AppleSox since Wenatchee swept Cowlitz in the middle of June. Grahamm Weist (Cal St. Fullerton) took the hill for the Black Bears, sporting an ERA of 0.60, good for second among pitchers in the West Coast League. He left the game with two outs in the fourth inning responsible for five Wenatchee runs to that point. The AppleSox would tack on six more runs against Ryan Yuengel (University of Missouri) and Jake Doller (Kansas St.).
The Black Bears struggled with clutch hitting, stranding base runners in six separate innings. Kirk Cunningham (LSU) went two-for-three with a stolen base from the number nine spot in the order. Mitchell Walding (St. Mary's of Stockton HS) had a double to highlight a two-for-four performance.
The team returns to Story Field on Friday, July 8th for a weekend series against the Klamath Falls Gems. World Famous Myron Noodleman will entertain the crowd on Las Rocas Fabulous Friday courtesy of Beecher-Carlson Insurance and Longview Sewing. The state police championship softball game will take place on the diamond before the contest with the Gems.
