Black Bears Lose In Extra Innings On O'Neil Home Run

Longview: July 11, 2012: Former Cowlitz Black Bear Spencer O'Neil hit a two-run home run in the eleventh inning to give the Walla Walla Sweets a 3-1 victory over the Cowlitz Black Bears Wednesday at Story Field.
The Black Bears tied the game at one in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Alex Rubanowitz (UC Riverside). The Black Bears had nine hits in the ballgame, including two apiece by Austin Diemer (Cal State Fullerton), Brian Carroll (UCLA) and Austin Wobrock (Orange Coast).
Koby Gauna (Cal State Fullerton) was the latest Black Bear to have a tremendous start, allowing just one run in six innings, striking out four. Felipe Perez (UCLA) and Cole Irvin (Oregon) each pitched a scoreless inning and Kody Watts (Portland) was unblemished until O'Neil's home run with two outs in the eleventh.
The Black Bears had a few opportunities to win the game but couldn't quite get it done. With runners on first and third and one out in the eighth, the Black Bears' hit into a double play on a controversial call at first. The team also left the bases loaded in the eleventh inning.
The Black Bears next home game is Thursday July 12 against the Walla Walla Sweets in the series finale. It will be Estetica Day Spa Thirsty Thursday & Ladies Night. There will be $2 beer and discounted prices on alcohol. All ladies attending the game will receive a $2 discount on the game day ticket price. It will also be Kelso Schools Spirit Night.
