Black Bears Lose at Kitsap 2-1
July 5, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
A two-out single by a Kitsap Blue Jackets player plated the walk-off run and dropped the Black Bears by a 2-1 final score Wednesday night.
The Black Bears got off to a great start in the first inning when Austin Diemer (Cal State Fullerton) singled and was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt before being brought in on an RBI single by Konnor Armijo (Santa Ana).
Kitsap tied the game in the fifth but that was the only run they were able to get against Cody Rogina (UC Riverside) who pitched five outstanding innings in his first start of the year. Koby Gauna (Cal State Fullerton) allowed just one run in three and two thirds innings, retiring his first nine hitters.
The Black Bears had a runner at first with no outs in the ninth inning when the home plate umpire was injured on a foul ball by Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana). A lengthy delay ensued.
The Black Bears next home game is Tuesday, July 10 against the Walla Walla Sweets. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday, featuring $2 GA tickets, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda, and $2 beer.
