Black Bears Hard at Work

December 23, 2002 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Berkshire Black Bears News Release

Hello from the city of Pittsfield! Though the weather outside is not exactly suitable for baseball, the front office of the Berkshire Black Bears is hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. The Black Bears return to historic Wahconah Park for 2003 strongly committed to providing Fur-ocious Family Fun along with a team dedicated to winning. Baseball is also about embracing the surrounding community & the Black Bears are once again committed to serving Berkshire County's community & charitable organizations. We value the relationships established with city officials, businesses, charities, community partners, and, of course, the greatest fans in baseball. We look forward to seeing you out at Wahconah Park in 2003!

On to the news & Santa has arrived a few days earlier this holiday season. On Thursday, the Black Bears named Darren Bush as the manager for the 2003 season. A native of Dunedin, FL, Darren brings an impressive resume of baseball experience along with vital leadership skills. He also benefits from his ability to relate to players & field a competitive team.

Darren's most recent assignment was working as a scout for the San Diego Padres. He has also worked as Coach/Director of Player Personnel for the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox of the independent Western League, General Manager of RBI Batting Cages & Professor of Physical Education at San Antonio Community College. His playing experience includes time with the Padres & Philadelphia Phillies organizations as well as the Zanesville Greys & Springfield Capitals of the independent Frontier League.

His mission is to put together a team that can not only compete but also improve upon last season's record. Darren's first big test is May 22 when the Black Bears open the 2003 season in New Jersey against the Jackals.

The Black Bears open their home schedule June 2 & tickets are available for all 46 regular season home games. Don't miss a single minute of action as the Black Bears battle for the Northeast League championship. What's the best way to enjoy the Black Bears? By purchasing tickets, of course. From season to individual to group tickets, we've got just what you're looking for. Go to www.berkshireblackbears.com for the full season schedule and ticket information.

Tired of the same old fundraisers? Then the Berkshire Black Bears Bonus Books are here to help. A Bonus Book consists of six undated Grandstand tickets valued at $5 each. Your organization or group sells the books for $25 each and gets to keep 50% of the money raised! For example, sell 50 books for $25 each and you've raised $625!

Fans can purchase the Bonus Books directly from the Black Bears with 50% of the money going the United Way of the Berkshires. Local organizations and groups that choose to take part in the program by selling the Bonus Books will be able to keep 50% of the money raised. Local businesses willing to offer the Bonus Books may choose which local charity or non-profit organization to donate the proceeds.

Think about it. Most programs that have groups selling candy bars or magazine subscriptions only return about 30% if they sell enough. With the Bonus Books, you're offered 50% no matter how many you sell.

Fundraising with the Black Bears is a terrific way for your organization to raise money. Both on and off the field, everybody wins!

For more information on tickets, group outings, Bonus Books, or anything else pertaining to the Black Bears, call (413) 448-2255 or go to www.berkshireblackbears.com. Be sure to check out the merchandise page on the website. We've added more items, including sweatshirts, perfect for this time of year.

The Black Bears would like to thank our fans for their loyal support in 2002 and would like to wish you the best for the holidays & for 2003. Bring on baseball!
