Black Bears Beat WCL All Stars 10-6

August 5, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview: August 5, 2012: For one day at least, the pitchers were hitters and the hitters were pitchers. In their last non-league game of the season, the Black Bears mixed things up and got a 10-6 win over the WCL Portland All-Stars.

Normally position players, Nick Paxton (Mt. Hood), Cody Childs (Mt. Hood), and Kyle Kuck (Santa Ana) each pitched, with Paxton holding the WCL Portland All-Stars scoreless in the first three innings. Kuck pitched a scoreless ninth inning. Ian Ekery (Central Arizona), the only non-position player pitcher to pitch in the game, allowed no runs and just one hit in three innings on the mound.

The Black Bears got 14 hits on the evening, many of them by pitchers, including two apiece by Cody Rogina (UC Riverside) and Taylor Williams (Mt. Hood). Derrick Salberg (Lower Columbia) was the only Black Bear to record three hits.

The Black Bears next home game is Monday, August 6 against the Kelowna Falcons in a makeup game. It will be Kids Eat Free Night Presented By State Farm. Kids eat free and run the bases- each child under 12 receives a voucher for a hot dog, soda, and chips as they enter the ballpark. Kids Club members get in for free. Kids run the bases after the game.
