Berkshire Black Bears News Release

PITTSFIELD-The Berkshire Black Bears will play host to the annual Northeast League General Managers meeting on January 15th and 16th of 2003. The meetings will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in downtown Pittsfield. According to Black Bears President/General Manager Mike Kardamis, the purpose of the meetings is to discuss league policy, rules and exchanging ideas about the league, players, promotions and community events.

“I lobbied hard to host the meeting in Pittsfield this year because the Berkshires are a beautiful place that the Black Bears are proud to call home,” said Kardamis. “I want the other General Managers to see why the Berkshires are a prime destination for tourists seeking family oriented fun.” Kardamis added that while he is anxious to show off the area to his colleagues, the meetings are also a breeding ground for ideas. “We share information about all aspects of the operation including promotions, concessions, player development, community relations and customer service. The exchange of ideas has always helped each of us build better teams and a better fan base.”

One of the idea’s Kardamis will bring to the meeting is the Black Bears latest ticket promotion designed to increase attendance and raise money for local charities. The Berkshire Black Bears Bonus Book Ticket Program provides a block of six tickets for the price of five. The tickets are valid for the 2003 season and half the purchase price of $25 goes to local charity. “The ticket books make great inexpensive Christmas gifts and half the money goes to local organizations dedicated to helping those less fortunate. It’s all about giving back to the community, particularly at this time of the year.”

The Black Bears retail store remains open year round in downtown Pittsfield and is stocked with Black Bears apparel and merchandise. “Our retail business has been very good, even as it is snowing outside people are coming in to buy shirts and hats and telling us how much they are looking forward to next season,” said Kardamis. The Black Bears begin their 2003 season in Wahconah Park on June 2 when they host the Quebec Le’Capitals. Tickets for the 2003 season are currently on sale at the Black Bears main office located at 2 South Street or by calling 413-448-2255 or by visiting their website at www.berkshireblackbears.com.
