Bisons Notes

June 3, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Toledo Mud Hens in the third game of a four-game series from Dunn Tire Park (1:05 p.m.). The series is tied one after the Herd scored a 3-2 victory last night. Looking for the set edge, the Bisons will turn to RHP Jeff Harris today. Harris fell in defeat on Tuesday in Indianapolis, allowing six runs in five innings of work. Toledo will counter with RHP Virgil Vasquez.

THE FRANCHISE: Ben Francisco has the second highest batting average (.348) in the International League, just .002 behind Rochester's Jose Morales. Francisco has hit in 15 straight games, averaging .403 (25-62) since May 18. It's the second longest streak for a Bisons hitter this season (Franklin Gutierrez, 19-games) and the 7th longest in the IL. Francisco is also 5th in the league in hits (63) and 7th in on-base percentage (.400).

ALWAYS ON: Luis Rivas had three of Buffalo's seven hits last night, extending his on-base streak to 19 games. It's the sixth longest active streak in the International League. Since May 11, Rivas has hit .333 (24-72) with 4HR and 8RBI. He has also drawn 15 walks during the stretch to post a .448 on-base percentage. On the year, Rivas' .373 on-base percentage is 3rd on the team (Ben Francisco, .400, Brad Snyder .374).

UN-COOPED: Outfielder Jason Cooper hit his first home run of the season last night, a two-run shot in the fourth inning. He now has 31 home runs in a Bisons uniform, T17th in the Modern Era with Phil Hiatt. Cooper's 143RBI with the team move him past Ryan Garko and into 13th place on the Modern Day charts.

DEFENSIVE WALL: Catcher David Wallace threw out a pair of Mud Hens on the base paths last night. He is now fourth in the IL having caught 8 of 19 would-be base stealers (42.1%). Teammate Mike Rose leads the IL (64.7%). As a team, the Bisons (45.7%) are second only to Rochester (46.5%) in throwing out runners.

CHOO-CHOO: Buffalo outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is currently on an eight-game hit streak. Since May 22, he has averaged .457 (16-35). Choo has also been one of Buffalo's better designated hitters. His last 6 games have been in the DH role and on the year he is hitting .413 (12-29) with 6RBI in 7 starts at designated hitter.
