Ottawa, ON - The Richmond Braves drilled the Ottawa Lynx 9-1 Sunday at Lynx Stadium. The Braves blew the game open with four runs in the second inning and cracked 16 hits to stake Dan Smith to his first Triple-A win.
The Braves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by J.C. Holt. Richmond scored all four second inning runs after there were two outs. Gregor Blanco and Brayan Pena knocked in runs with singles. Graham Koonce doubled two home to give the Braves a 5-0 lead. In the fifth Koonce whacked a solo home run and Brent Lillibridge chased a run home with a single to give Richmond a 7-0 lead. Ottawa avoided a shutout in the seventh with an RBI single by Joey Hammond. The Braves added two runs in the ninth. Doug Clark smacked a home run for the third straight day and Jonathan Schuerholz produced a run with a single.
Smith earned the win, allowing a run in 6.2 innings. Rick Bauer took the loss. Six Braves enjoyed multiple hit games, led by Gregor Blanco with three. Joe Thurston and Gary Burnham had two hits each for the Lynx.
The Braves wrap up a 10 game road trip Monday vs. Ottawa at 11:05 AM. Trey Hodges will pitch for Richmond vs. Eude Brito. The Braves return home Tuesday to face Pawtucket at 7 PM.
