Tonight's Game

Tonight, the Bisons face the Syracuse Chiefs in the first game of a four-game series at NBT Bank Stadium (7:06 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a 7-2 homestand with series wins over Rochester and Columbus. Buffalo is 17-20 on the road this season.

vs. Syracuse

The Bisons (9-6) lead the Chiefs (9-7) by a half-game in the race for the 2014 Thruway Cup. The two teams played eight times in a 12-game stretch earlier in June with Syracuse winning five of the eight contests. Buffalo was a perfect 8-0 at NBT Bank Stadium last season.

Esmil Rogers

RHP ESMIL ROGERS makes his fourth start for the Bisons today. The righty worked a season-best five shutout innings on Monday to beat Rochester, 4-2. He allowed just four hits in his second win of the season. Rogers has faced the Chiefs twice in relief this year, allowing a run on five hits in five innings of work with six strikeouts.

Pillar of Strength

OF KEVIN PILLAR has 12 multi-hit performances in his last 21 games with the Bisons. Since the start of May, Pillar has averaged .384 (43-112) with 13 doubles and 15 RBI in just 28 games. His 21 doubles on the season are second most in the International League while his .327 overall average in 4th best in the IL.

Andy LaRoche

INF ANDY LAROCHE brings a loud nine-game hit streak into tonight's game. The veteran has averaged.469 (15-32) since June 13 with three doubles, two home runs and nine RBI. For the season, the veteran is hitting .333 (10-30) with runners in scoring position.

A.J. Jimenez

C A.J. JIMENEZ has collected a hit in 20 of his 25 games with the Bisons. The catcher had a two-run single in the Herd's five-run eighth inning last night. The backstop has also thrown out nearly half (9 of 19) of the would-be base stealers against his since joining Buffalo.

Roster Move

The Blue Jays recalled OF DARIN MASTROIANNI from the Bisons today and optioned LHP ROB RASMUSSEN. Mastroianni has reached base safely in 49 of his 56 games with Buffalo and leads the squad with 15 steals. Rasmussen has posted a 2.63 ERA in 19 appearances with Herd in 2014, striking out 23 to only 18 hits allowed in 24.0 innings.

Blue Jays Update

The Blue Jays (45-37) fell to the White Sox, 5-4, on Friday night. Toronto got three home runs, including Edwin Encarnacion's 26th of the season, but they were all solo shots. R.A. Dickey struck out nine in the loss. The Blue Jays host Chicago again today at 1:07 p.m.
